E-Bikes and Motorized Scooter Use Communication

Parent Notification: Motorized Scooter and E-Bike Safety

The Ripon Police Department has seen an increase in incidents and complaints     involving motorized scooters and E-bikes, many of which involve minors. Since May 2025, the department has focused on education and community outreach to help riders and parents understand the laws that apply to these vehicles. Unfortunately, unsafe and unlawful riding continues to be a concern.

For the safety of our students and our community, the Ripon Police Department will now begin issuing citations when violations are observed.

Additionally, students are prohibited from bringing a motorized scooter on campus unless they have a valid driver’s license or instruction permit.

To help raise awareness, the department’s Traffic Unit has created informational flyers outlining the laws and safe operating practices for motorized scooters and e-bikes. These flyers have been shared on the department’s social media pages, but the schools will be distributing them to every student to ensure all families have access to this important information.

Additionally, the Ripon Police Department has offered to speak directly with students about safe riding practices. We look forward to incorporating these presentations into future student assemblies at each of the RUSD schools.
