Become a Certificated Substitute Teacher with RUSD

Thank you for your interest in becoming a certificated substitute teacher with Ripon Unified School District! To provide a consistent and efficient hiring process, we recruit and onboard substitute teachers through three scheduled hiring cycles each year.

How the Process Works

Step 1: Apply

The Certificated Substitute Teacher position will be posted on EDJOIN during the following application windows:

August / December / May

Each posting will remain open for the entire month. Interested applicants must submit an application through EDJOIN during one of these recruitment periods.

Step 2: Interview

Qualified applicants will be invited to attend a walk-in interview during the month following the application window:

September (for August applicants) / January (for December applicants) / June (for May applicants)

Step 3: Hiring & Onboarding

Candidates selected for employment will complete the district's onboarding process, including all required employment paperwork and pre-employment clearances. Human Resources will guide candidates through each step to ensure all requirements are completed before they begin working.

Step 4: Begin Substituting

Once onboarding has been successfully completed, substitute teachers will be eligible to accept assignments.

Current Ripon Unified employees or administrators may also recommend qualified candidates for consideration outside of the regular recruitment windows. Referred candidates may be invited to apply through the district's Employee Referral Candidate Pool using a referral access code provided by an administrator.

Coaching for Ripon Unified

Ripon Unified School District is committed to providing quality athletic programs that support student growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship at Ripon High School and our elementary schools. We welcome qualified individuals who are passionate about working with student-athletes and contributing to our athletic programs.

When a head coach or assistant coach position cannot be filled by a current district employee, Ripon Unified School District will post the coaching vacancy on EDJOIN for qualified walk-on coaches to apply. Applicants selected for a walk-on coaching position must successfully complete all district employment requirements before beginning their coaching assignment. These requirements include, but are not limited to, Live Scan fingerprint clearance, TB clearance, payroll and employment paperwork, and all required district trainings.

At the discretion of the Athletic Director and Site Administrator, Head Coaches may also appoint volunteer coaches to assist with their program. Volunteer coaching positions are unpaid and are not considered district employees. All volunteer coaches must complete the district's volunteer application and clearance process before participating in any coaching activities.
